Like a valley of flesh she lay naked on my bed.
I stood smoking by the window.
She stirred in her sleep and her lips slightly parted,
I wondered of what she was dreaming.
I gazed at her form, her beauty and scars,
As the smoke swirled on my tongue.
Only an hour before it was her on my lips.
A taste I will to linger.
The cool air flowed through the open window,
Playfully chasing the smoke.
It caressed her skin like a gentle lover.
Then her eyes fluttered and opened.
She met my gaze, and for a long moment looked,
Before her mouth climbed to a smile.
With a tilt of her head, she summoned me to her,
Teasing my mortal soul.
Her young soft skin beneath my fingers,
Breasts pressed hard to my chest.
‘I love you’ she whispered softly.
Then she gave me a kiss.
‘I was watching you’ I confessed breathless,
As I gazed at this glorious light.
Her legs wrapped around me, she pulled me closer.
We made love three times that night.
And the years they did march.
And youth it did betray.
Like a valley of flesh she lies naked on our bed.
I stand smoking by the window.
She doesn’t stir in her sleep, her lips won’t move,
I know tonight she’s not dreaming.
I gaze at her form, her beauty and scars,
As the smoke burns my tongue.
Only an hour before it was her on my lips,
A taste that shall always linger.
The cool air flows through the window,
Playfully slapping the smoke.
It caresses her skin like the breath of the lost,
As I will her eyes to open.
She won’t meet my gaze, or smile in my eyes
As she did so long ago.
My baby, oh my baby.
When she summons me again; I shall go.
